How to get to and around Puerto Rico...
Of course Puerto Rico is an island, which means it takes a little effort to get here. Once you get here we strongly suggest you rent a car. There are public transportation options available (especially in San Juan) but they are slow and unpredictable. Puerto Rico has the highest number of cars per capita than any place in the world. Yes. You read that correctly. The world. Puertoricans love their cars and love working on them and they are everywhere. Puertorican driving is a subjective thing. For me, I find it to be a highly pragmatic ballet; for Travis it is an endless aggravation. An overwhelming desire to be courteous pervades Puertorican driving so don't be surprised if the person in front of you lets in six cars before the light changes. In Puerto Rico driving is Karmic (pun intended) the idea being the favor will be repaid sometime in the future. The same goes for stopping traffic to say hello and chat about the family, buy water or produce or give alms. Horn honking unless it is truly needed is bad manners.
