San Juan (The Condado, Santurce)
Crossing the Dos Hermanos Bridge from Old San Juan into the Condado is like traveling in a time machine. In the turn of a road you leave the cramped confines of the colonial city for the high rises, hotels, casinos and shopping that is the Condado. Named for the Spanish word for "county" the Condado was once just that-- a suburban streetcar community since transformed into a glittering strip not unlike Miami Beach. A neighborhood at times touristy and garish, it none-the-less has several excellent restaurants, stunning beaches and quiet residential neighborhoods (especially Ocean Park) where the glitterati and well-to-do of the city live and recreate.
